Should have researched more.... No good for Nokia phones |
I bought this item from another online retailer and wish Id come here first. Like probably a huge amount of the mobile user population I own a Nokia. As far as this card is concerned, it installs easily, it fits very snug in the card slot. things were looking very good. The software that comes with the card is good and allowed me to send a few files to my mobile very easily. However, when I installed Nokia PC Suite I couldnt get it to work. I couldnt get a connection, even though both machines were aware of each other. I put this down to typical computer problems (they happen...) but when I read the comments here it was clear that this card does not work with Nokia. I wasnt made aware of this when I bought it but its a showstopper.SO, the card is good, it works well, it fits snug. Just dont buy it if you need to run Nokia PC Suite.

Great for surfing web and email on the move |
|
This product is simple to use and configure. I use it to connect to my Nokia 6310i (with GPRS on Orange) for email and web browsing and it works well and the speed is very reasonable - although it is best to set IE to not show pictures... Like the other reviewer I spent ages trying to get Nokia PC Suite talking to the phone via this card and eventually gave up. I view this as a minor inconvenience and so rate this as 5 stars based on the dial up via Bluetooth which cannot be faulted.

3com bluetooth PC card: compatability with Nokia Phones |
|
The card is simple to install, (plug it in !) and the software loaded from CD without fuss. "Bluetooth conection manager", the 3Com software, can be run from a shortcut, or auto started with windows, monitoring bluetooth devices continuously. The software allows easy setup for serial connection, dial up network and fax connection etc. I quickly managed to configure the interface to allow web access via my Nokia 6310i albeit at 9.6Kbps. So far, the 3com card was doing everything i asked and expected. When i tried to configure the card to allow Nokia PCsuite software to link to the 6310i via bluetooth, i ran into difficulties. A call to a very helpful Nokia technical support person revealed that 3com does not support the connection to Nokia PCsuite, while other bluetooth PC cards most definitly do. Back to my hi-tech serial cable to access Nokia PCsuite which allows me to syncronise address numbers and details between microsoft outlook and Nokia 6310i phone. I personally find PCsuite far more useful, even essential, than internet access via a mobile, therefore I consider this a serious omission, and derate the 3com card from 5 stars to 3.
